Currency Overview
The Zambian Kwacha (ZMW) is the official currency and legal tender of the Republic of Zambia. It is the only currency accepted for transactions within the country.
The Bank of Zambia is the sole authority responsible for issuing banknotes and coins in Zambia. This mandate is established under the Bank of Zambia Act and ensures the integrity and security of the national currency.
Denominations currently in circulation: Banknotes are issued in ZMW 2, ZMW 5, ZMW 10, ZMW 20, ZMW 50, and ZMW 100 denominations. Coins are issued in 5 Ngwee, 10 Ngwee, 50 Ngwee, and ZMW 1 denominations (100 Ngwee = 1 Kwacha).
