Overview
Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs) play a vital role in extending financial services to underserved populations and sectors of the Zambian economy. The Bank of Zambia regulates and supervises these institutions to ensure they operate safely and contribute to financial inclusion.
Types of NBFIs
- Microfinance Institutions: Provide small loans and savings services to low-income individuals and small businesses
- Leasing Finance Institutions: Offer equipment and asset financing through lease arrangements
- Development Finance Institutions: Provide long-term financing for development projects
- Credit Reference Bureaus: Collect and share credit information to support lending decisions
